Emily Dickinson/Nowhere in Africa - Belonging Requires Sacrifice

Emily Dickinsons poetry, is often written about traveling. In round cases she relates belonging to making chip ins. Two poems that strongly demonstrate this composition be Poem 67 and Poem 82. In each of the texts there are ex coarses and descriptions of strong-arm sacrifices. In Emily Dickinsons (EDs) poem 67 the visible sacrifice is very obvious. EDs Poem 82 also has a clear example of physical sacrifice. The poem is about a narrator who, in a sense, is physically starving themselves. They are tempted by the food that is nearby, like the curious wine and ample bread that is on the table. This physical struggle is described as the narrator is trembling while examing the wine. Also this hunger sacrifice is made harder because the narrator had often shared food with the birds.
In the movie Nowhere in Africa (NIA) the family moves from Germany, during WWII, to Africa. In this move to the highest degree all their money is lost or spent and the tyro loses his job because he is Jewish.



These are sacrifices that had to be made for them to take out Germany. When they arrive in Africa Walter and his wife Jettel have to do physical labour to earn money. This sacrifice is one of the essential actions that allowed their family to belong to the African community.

The texts also have evidence of emotional sacrifices. In EDs poem 67, the narrator is described as being obsessed with beauty. This is an example of someone sacrificing their beliefs and conforming with society. looker could also be interpreted as society itself and so the narrator sacrifices her truth to be accepted.
