The Ju/hoansi is a hunting and gathering family who is located on the b parade of Namibia and Botswana. The book, The Dobe Ju/hoansi, gives a vivid depiction of the Ju/hoansi society. The book describes their environment, the sustenance they eat, their personal relationships (from marriage and sexuality amongst themselves to their relationships outside their own society), how they handle for their elderly, and how they handle conflict and disputes. After reading the book, I subscribe to found that there be several similarities as intumesce as differences between the American society and the Ju/hoansi society.
In our American culture we are accustomed to a society where nominal governmental institutions and legislations are cause forth by political sympathies. If a dispute should overdress amongst us in our modern society we seek the courts and legislation to resolve our complaints and in some cases set precedents that eventually become law. Even then, those laws are not a perfect fit to every dispute that may arise in a similar situation. When there is civil unrest we result to violence at the hands of each separate that is often deadly, and at that blot we depend on government to carry out justice.
The Ju/hoansi is a society of people that are able to co-exist peacefully, maintain order and thrive without the formal political institutions and legislations. This is no to say that the Ju/hoansi are not subject to emotions of anger, jealousy, rabies and discord amongst each other. There were no formal institutions indoors the Ju/hoansi society to settle disputes until the introduction of the Tswana and Herero courts in 1948. Up until that point disputes were settled by talking it out in a joking manner, fights (mainly wrestling) and deadly combat type fights which was a exalted event.
