A lot of these proceedings are metaphoric in character and portray the message of peace and a lot of symbolisms and Christian iconography associated with the day. The red poppy has become a familiar emblem of the day due to the poem In Flanders Fields. The brilliant red colourize works as an appropriate symbol for the blood spilt in the war, and the red poppies were the ones that bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in WWI.

Remembrance Day is a day of remembering and forgetting. The usual point game of the war is put aside, and everyone who took part in them are considered victims and are given the same amount of respect. It is one day where the world puts aside their differences, and grieve, remember and forget, together. Remembering and forgetting are two parts of the same coin.
